Barack Obama, whose full name is Barack Hussein Obama Jr. (August 4, 1961), is the forty-fourth president of the United States of America from January 20, 2009 to January 20, 2017, and the first president of African descent to reach the White House.
He achieved a landslide victory over his opponent, John McCain, by defeating some Republican strongholds such as Ohio and Virginia on November 4, 2008. He was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in strengthening international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples, before completing a year in power.
